Today marks the final day of Summer Camp at the Darien YMCA, and what a summer it has been! From sailing on Holly Pond to games, creative activities, outdoor adventures, new friendships and LOTS of smiles, our campers packed every day with fun. 😎🎨⛵
A huge THANK YOU to our amazing campers, families and counselors who made this summer so special. We loved every laugh, adventure and memory made along the way!

Don walked into the Darien YMCA today and was greeted with a birthday surprise from our staff! 🥳👏
We couldn’t let this milestone go by without celebrating one of the smiling faces that makes our Y so special.
90 years young and still going strong! Happy Birthday, Don! 🎈🎉
🎉 HAPPY 90TH BIRTHDAY, DON! 🎂💙
Today we’re celebrating a very special milestone for someone who has spent decades making people feel welcome — Don Posner is 90!
If you’ve walked through the doors of the Darien YMCA, chances are you’ve been greeted by Don’s smile, his sense of humor, and, depending on the time of year, a pretty impressive holiday outfit. ☘️🎃🎄
But behind that smile is quite a story.
Don’s journey includes a military background at The Citadel and in the Army Reserve, a long career in education, including serving as a student teacher supervisor at the University of Bridgeport, and more than three decades teaching English at Westhill High School in Stamford from 1967–2003.
And then there’s his incredible YMCA story.
Don spent 20 years at the Greenwich YMCA from 1986–2006 before joining the Darien YMCA in 2006, where he has been welcoming members and staff ever since.
That’s 40 years of service to the YMCA. 💙
For those of us lucky enough to work alongside Don, he is so much more than the person who greets you at the front desk. He brings personality, laughter and warmth to our Y every day. And nobody—and we mean nobody—celebrates a holiday quite like Don. We all know St. Patrick’s Day holds a particularly special place in his heart! ☘️
At 90 years young, Don continues to show us what it means to stay connected, keep smiling and make a difference in the lives of the people around you.
Happy 90th Birthday, Don! Thank you for everything you have given to the YMCA community over the past 40 years. We are incredibly fortunate to have you as part of our Darien Y family.

Today, our Darien YMCA Gymnastics campers wrapped up an amazing summer of camp by showing off their skills at our Gymnastics Show! 🎉
From the bars to the floor, our gymnasts put everything they’ve been working on this summer into action—and had plenty of fun along the way! 💪🤸♀️
We’re so proud of the confidence, hard work, friendships and new skills these campers developed throughout the summer. And judging by those smiles, we’d say they had a pretty great time too! 💙
A big thank you to our coaches, campers and families for making this summer in the gym such a memorable one.

Pool time at camp is about so much more than having fun. It’s also an opportunity for our youngest campers to become more comfortable in the water while learning the lifelong skill of water safety in a positive and encouraging environment.

Today we celebrated an incredible milestone as we honored Coach Val for 25 years with Darien YMCA Gymnastics!
For a quarter of a century, Coach Val has done so much more than teach gymnastics. She has inspired confidence, encouraged perseverance, and helped generations of young athletes grow both inside and outside the gym. Her patience, passion, and unwavering dedication have left a lasting impact on countless gymnasts and families throughout our community.
Today, surrounded by gymnasts, fellow coaches, and friends, we had the opportunity to thank Coach Val for everything she has given to the Darien YMCA over the past 25 years.
Thank you, Coach Val, for every lesson, every encouraging word, and every smile. Your commitment has helped make our gymnastics program the special place it is today, and we are so grateful to have you as part of the Darien YMCA family.

A day at camp isn`t just about making memories—it`s also about building confidence and teaching skills that can save lives.
Today our campers had a blast learning the importance of water safety and proper life jacket use through hands-on activities in the pool. From practicing safe entries to learning how a life jacket helps keep you afloat, every splash was an opportunity to build confidence in and around the water.
Teaching children to respect the water and understand basic safety skills at an early age helps prepare them for a lifetime of safe adventures—whether they`re at the pool, the beach, or out on the lake.
At the Darien YMCA, we`re proud to make water safety an important part of every camper`s summer...and have plenty of fun along the way! 💙🌊
