Holly Pond Pre-School, established in 1968, is a trusted, community-based preschool dedicated to exceptional early childhood education. For over five decades, we have provided a nurturing, child-centered learning environment where children are known, supported, and inspired to grow with confidence and curiosity.
Our preschool program blends strong academics with hands-on, experiential learning that supports whole child development. Through play, enrichment activities like swimming and gymnastics, and flexible extended care options such as Holly Care and Kids Club, children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally while building independence, resilience, and a lifelong love of learning.

Seamlessly integrated into our campus and led by experienced teachers, Holly Care offers children a full-day experience in a more relaxed, activity-based setting that places special emphasis on social-emotional learning and connection.
At Holly Pond, learning happens through play, exploration, and meaningful experiences. Our youngest learners build confidence and life skills through gymnastics, swimming, sports, music, cooking, and collaborative activities designed just for their developmental stage. Our mission is to foster the growth of independent and confident scholars who respect themselves and others through active learning experiences that extend their knowledge in the classroom and beyond.
The learning environment at the Holly Pond School is experiential, interactive, and collaborative, with an emphasis on educating the whole person— fostering the intellectual, socio-emotional, and physical growth of each child. We plan and follow a consistent schedule daily with learning goals in mind. This helps children feel secure (because they know what comes next) and independent (because they move from one activity to another easily and confidently).
Our curriculum is organized thematically, enabling children to make thoughtful connections and comparisons from their own observations, explorations, and experiences. We believe we teach children best when we support and extend their learning through play, challenging them to discover their own abilities and to try the unfamiliar.
Each area of the classroom has a developmental purpose. This allows children to learn through discovery in a hands-on, active environment. We believe when children actively explore the learning environment, they construct their own meaning, which makes them feel confident and independent because they are truly invested in the experience.
We utilize proactive classroom management techniques and respectful language. This models respect for self and others, and guides children to focus on good choices. We believe that children who feel respected and confident that they are an integral part of the life of the classroom are consequently sensitive and responsive to others. From classroom rules to school-wide projects, we teach that all people are deserving of respect and kindness.
Our affiliation with the YMCA allows opportunities for active enrichment, including swimming and gymnastics. This broadens learning beyond the classroom, engaging the body as well as the mind, helping children develop courage and confidence. We believe that courage, confidence and teamwork can be taught effectively through our program that links “ABCs” with “In the water, please.” We believe that our students leave the Holly Pond School with an awareness of community, and apply the core values we espouse: respect, responsibility, honesty, and caring.
FAQs
We view challenging behaviors and big emotions as part of a child’s development and an opportunity to teach important social-emotional skills. Our teachers respond with patience and consistency, helping children name their feelings, understand expectations, and learn appropriate ways to express themselves. We use positive guidance strategies, redirection, and problem-solving rather than punishment. When a child is having a hard moment, teachers stay close, offer comfort, and help them regulate before rejoining the group. We also partner closely with families to ensure consistency between home and school and to support each child’s individual needs.
Our staff brings a strong combination of extensive hands-on experience and ongoing professional development. Many of our teachers have years and in many cases decades of experience working in early childhood education. In addition, all staff complete annual professional development in accordance with state licensing requirements. This includes training in child development, classroom management, health and safety, and best practices in early childhood care.
All staff are fully trained in emergency procedures, CPR and First Aid, and the administration of allergy and emergency medications, including EpiPens. We believe that experience, ongoing learning, and safety training are equally important, and we intentionally invest in all three to ensure high-quality care for children.
We’re very fortunate to have a highly stable and experienced team. Many of our teachers have been here for 10, 15, 20, and even 30 years. Because of that, our staff turnover rate is very low compared to industry standards. We focus on building a supportive, respectful work environment, which allows our teachers to form long-term relationships with children, families and each other. That consistency is something families really value, and it makes a big difference in the classroom.
No. All enrichment programs are included in tuition. Through our partnership with the YMCA, children in all age groups participate in sports, gymnastics, and music, and once enrolled in our Threes program, children also participate in swimming.
We do not provide meals.
- Children attending half-day programs should bring a snack and a water bottle.
- Children attending a school-day program should bring a lunch and water bottle.
Please note: We are a nut-free facility.
- Twos Program: Children are accepted where they are in the potty-training process. Teachers will support and guide children based on what families have started at home, and we work together to ensure consistency.
- All other Children must be fully potty trained prior to enrollment.
While each program is developmentally tailored, a typical day includes:
- Morning meeting
- A balance of early academics and social play
- Learning experiences across key areas including math, science, sensory play, language, art, engineering, fine motor, and gross motor activities
These experiences are thoughtfully balanced and integrated with our enrichment programs such as gymnastics, swimming, sports, music, and cooking.
Yes! We value a strong school–family partnership. Families are welcome to participate in many ways, including:
- Classroom celebrations and parties
- Mystery reader visits
- Assisting with cooking or art activities and swim helpers
Absolutely. Holly Pond School and the YMCA offer many opportunities for families to build community, including:
- Fall Festival
- Holiday celebrations
- Mom’s Night Out events
- Cocktail parties and silent auctions
- Healthy Kids Day and other YMCA events
We truly appreciate how much families value our teachers. While we carefully consider all requests, classroom placement is based on multiple factors, including overall classroom balance and what will best support each child’s success. For this reason, we are unable to honor all requests.
Hard drop-offs can be challenging, for both children and parents. Our teachers are well trained and equipped to support children using kind, calm, and gentle strategies.
In our experience, children typically settle quickly once parents leave, and we are fully prepared to handle these moments without requiring parent pick-up.
We use a positive reinforcement–based behavioral philosophy. This means teachers focus on:
- Guiding children through emotions
- Teaching problem-solving and self-regulation skills
- Encouraging positive behavior through modeling, redirection, and support
Our goal is to help children feel safe, confident, and successful.

The teaching staff at Holly Pond School has been selected for their child-centered approach, warmth, and sensitivity.
