COVID-19 YMCA Updates

Important Message for our Darien YMCA Community:

Dear Darien Y Members,

During these uncertain times, it’s important for us all to stay connected. At the Darien YMCA, everything we do is guided by our mission of supporting and strengthening community, which is even more critical now.

Our YMCA has always been a community of caring and generous people and once again we are proving to be defined by more than a physical building. Please know that we are committed to re-open as soon as we can provide a safe environment for our members and staff.

 How our team is responding:

  • We are reaching out to community-based service organizations, including the American Red Cross and Person to Person, to discuss how we can help.
  • We are reaching out to our older adult members, to check-in and asking about their needs. We ask you to do the same, check-in with your older adult neighbors and friends and assist safely where needed.
  • Your health continues to be a top priority for us. To help you stay healthy and continue to meet your fitness goals from home follow The Darien YMCA on Facebook, our YouTube Channel and visit our website (darien-ymca.org) for virtual workouts.

We are grateful for your support!

We have received numerous emails and several generous donations from our members in support of the Darien YMCA during these uncertain times. As you know, membership fees are vital to sustaining our non-profit organization. A short-term significant disruption in these dues could have a devastating impact on our ability to fulfill our mission. With your support, we pledge to not only emerge from this crisis stronger than ever but continue to serve our members and community in any way that we can during this crisis.

Membership fees drafted beginning April 1, 2020 will be recognized as tax deductible gifts to the Darien YMCA. We want to thank all our members in advance for their continued support and understanding.

If you need to hold your monthly membership dues, we fully understand. To request a temporary hold of your payments, please fill out a Membership Change Form online by Friday, March 28, 2020. When we re-open, we will resume your monthly membership dues.

You are all in our hearts and minds! We can’t wait to welcome you all back and look forward to seeing your smiling faces! Today, we need each other more than ever.

DARIEN YMCA MEMBER MADE CHANNEL 12 NEWS

Longtime member Gunnar Edelstein was among one of the first to sign up to volunteer for the Darien YMCA food drive. When staff were contacted by Person-to-Person, a local non-profit in our community, they quickly got to work on organizing and rallying behind supporting a fellow non-profit organization. Due to social distancing, there was a limit to 6 volunteers per shift so they made several shifts. Within hours of putting up a sign-up genius, all the slots were full. It's a testament to our community and the good nature of its members. Social Responsibility is a big part of the Y's mission. Whenever called upon, we are there! We're proud of our team and of our members.

May we continue to live our mission and strengthening communities whatever the circumstance.
