Kelly’s Story

Kelly Torchiana: Head Shot new board member of Darien YMCA

My family and I moved to Darien in December of 2022. One of the first tasks once we found our home was to find a preschool program for our oldest son. My background is in Special Education and in Educational Leadership, so I look at school programs through the lens of a parent as well as an educator. We had heard many positive things about Holly Pond School, so we scheduled a visit with April Greene. We were super impressed with the experienced and caring teachers and staff, class size, enrichment classes of swimming, gymnastics, cooking, and music. We knew this would be a great fit for our child and quickly became members of the YMCA and enrolled in Holly Pond School.

As a mom and an educator, I am passionate about providing children with opportunities to grow academically, socially, emotionally, and physically in a safe and loving environment. Holly Pond School and the YMCA have been this place for our family. My son is so excited to go to school each morning and to tell me about his day when I pick him up. I am honored to be a new board member of the YMCA, to give back to my new community and to further the Y’s mission of building a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all!
