Come join a winning tradition! The Darien YMCA is once again teaming up with the Darien High School Wrestling team to bring to you our exciting youth wrestling program. The program will be instructed by Darien High School Veteran Head Coach Joe Vano.

Our experienced and trained coaching staff will teach the basic skills needed to gain insight into the rapidly growing sport of wrestling. Their knowledge and expertise will help young wrestlers learn, develop, and understand the concept of healthy competition. This program will focus on strengthening each individual’s confidence, self-esteem, agility, and coordination.

All participants in Grades 3 through 8 are welcome. No prior wrestling experience is required. Basic wrestling skills will be taught to all new comers. Experienced wrestlers will be taught advanced wrestling skills. There will be an opportunity for matches and tournaments with other wrestlers of the same age, weight, and experience. Sneakers and shorts are the required attire.

PROGRAM WILL RUN NOVEMBER 27 THROUGH FEBRUARY 7 (10 WEEKS)

For Boys in Grades 3rd – 8th

Tuesdays & Thursdays 5:00-6:30 @ Darien High School

 
Price

Members – $250            Non-Members $300 

Price includes $35 charge so that the wrestlers can be certified and receive their USA Wrestling card.

Wrestling offers the opportunity for kids to develop more self-confidence and self-reliance than one might get from a team sport. Participants will learn the importance of individual one-on-one competition, while training with others and building life-long friendships. Youth who participate in a wrestling program stand to benefit physically by gaining:

  • Body awareness
  • Strength
  • Endurance
